Academic Coaching

Academic coaching is a personalized, one-on-one support service designed to help students improve their academic performance, develop effective study skills, and achieve their educational goals. Academic coaches work closely with students to identify their strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles, and then tailor strategies and techniques to address areas of improvement.

ScholarScope educators understand that the road to academic success may have challenges that aren't school-related and that's why along with coaching, we incorporate Academic Therapy.

Academic Therapy is in-depth educational intervention designed to address and support the unique learning needs of individuals who are facing non-academic challenges. This form of  "therapy" goes beyond traditional educational methods and aims to identify and remediate specific difficulties that students may be experiencing outside the classroom. This could be stress, feeling overwhelmed, anxiety, or depression. Since these issues can impede learning, we work with students to provide the support where needed.

The goal of academic therapy is to empower struggling students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed academically. By identifying factors that hinder learning, providing targeted emotional support, and fostering a positive learning environment, Academic Therapy contributes to the overall development and academic achievement of students facing challenges in their education.

How Academic Therapy Works

Assessment

In the initial session, the academic professional gathers information about the student's background, current concerns, and goals for success. This helps in understanding their unique learning needs and to tailor the services according to those needs.

Establishing a Therapeutic Relationship

A strong and trusting relationship between the coach and the client is crucial for the success of academic therapy. This relationship provides a safe and confidential space for  clients to explore their thoughts and feelings.

Goal Setting

Every student needs clear direction and purpose to help them focus their efforts and resources. Goals create motivation and a sense of accomplishment as progress is made, fostering a positive and driven mindset. Additionally, well-defined goals serve as a roadmap for decision-making and aids in accountability.

Transformational Growth

Depending on the approach, academic therapy may involve making specific changes in habits that hinder academic success. This could include breaking ineffective study habits, or improving interpersonal relationships with educators.

Processing Negative Emotions

For individuals dealing with socio-emotional issues associated with school, academic therapy may involve processing and working through the emotional impact of these experiences to help clients grow and develop into scholars.

Skill Building

An Academic Therapist often teaches clients coping skills and strategies to manage stress, anxiety, depression, or other challenges associated with school. These skills may include organization, time management, and establishing a routine.

Empowerment

Empowerment helps to  increase self confidence and resilience, enabling students to tackle challenges with a positive mindset. This empowerment fosters a greater sense of autonomy and responsibility, promoting proactive learning and the ability to make informed decisions about their education.
